Tryouts
New to Sting? Supplemental tryouts are open year-round, get evaluated and placed on a team that fits.
Year-round supplemental tryouts
Our main season tryouts are held each May, but you don't have to wait. Sting SC holds supplemental tryouts year-round so new and prospective players can be evaluated and placed on a team at any time during the year.
Established in 1985 as the first soccer club in the state of Idaho, Sting SC is the only club in Idaho that is a full member of the Elite Academy (EA) League for boys and the Girls Academy (GA) ASPIRE League for girls. Come be a part of the most successful competitive soccer club in North Idaho.
How it works
Three steps to joining Sting
- 1
Register
Create or log into your GotSport profile and request a supplemental tryout for your age group.
- 2
Get evaluated
Arrive 15–30 minutes early to check in. Our coaches evaluate players in a fun, supportive session.
- 3
Get placed
Players are placed on the team best suited to their level, with room to move up as they grow.
What to bring
- Water
- Soccer ball
- Shin guards
- Soccer cleats
Wearing soccer cleats and shin guards is essential. We recommend players bring plenty of water and sunscreen (weather dependent). Please arrive 15–30 minutes ahead of your tryout time to check in at the registration table.
Programs & placement
Sting SC offers levels of play for every age and ability, from Little Sting (ages 4–7) through Select, Premier, and our Academy teams. Players are placed on the team best suited for their level of play, with opportunities to move between levels based on performance.
Fees & payments
Sting's fees are competitive with other local clubs and cover the full club year (August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027), whether a player competes in the fall, the spring, or both. Registration covers coach stipends, association and state fees, scheduling, local and elite league fees including referees and field rentals, player registration with IYSA and US Club Soccer, facility maintenance, insurance, and field rental. Each team sets additional team fees, described below.
| Age group | Grade | Annual fee |
|---|---|---|
| U8 | 2nd grade | $600 |
| U9–U10 | 3rd–4th grade | $995 |
| U11–U12 | 5th–6th grade | $1,760 Academy · $1,430 Premier |
| U13–U14 | 7th–8th grade | $1,950 Academy · $1,580 Premier |
| U15–U18 | Grades 9–12 | $1,670 Academy · $1,350 Premier |
Premier placement depends on player numbers and team formation; not every age group has a Premier team in a given season.
Payment options
Club fees can be paid by credit or debit card, and a seven-equal-payment plan is available. We offer dues assistance so that cost is not a barrier to playing.
Team invitations
After tryouts, players receive a team invitation by email. Accept the invitation by the date shown in your invite to secure your spot, or it may be released to another player. Players are placed at the level that best fits them, with room to move up as they develop.
Team fees
Each team sets its own team fees, calculated by the team manager to cover tournaments and team and coach travel. Amounts vary by age and level and are discussed at your team's first meeting.
Uniform kits
On even-numbered years, players purchase a complete Sting uniform kit, which is the player's responsibility. See the Uniform Kit page for details and ordering.
Fundraising
Club fundraising events help offset costs and fund dues assistance, and teams may fundraise to offset their team fees.
Volunteer hours
Every family volunteers in a team position and a HOTSHOT tournament assignment each year. Unfulfilled volunteer hours are billed back to the family.
